Aqila Mansoor (left) and familyAqila Mansoor (member of the National Union of Teachers, and on the left of the picture with family) who was a school teacher in Pakistan and is seeking asylum with her husband (see their website), has been working tirelessly over the last three years to help solve the problems of those who are in the same situation as she is.

She has helped a number of families to get admissions for their education in both schools and adult education centres, given support as an interpretter in surgeries, schools, dentists, hospitals and particularly helped women integrate into the UK.

Aquila has been working in the Routes project as a volunteer and has also joined the British Red Cross. The award is from the Pakistan Refugees Organisation and will be presented by the Lord Mayor of Manchester Afzal Khan.

Mr Kashif Ali of the PRO said "Congratulations, we feel it is important to recognise the good work that is done by the many unsung heroes in the community such as yourself, your selfless acts provide a counter balance to negative headlines that often make the front pages of newspapers."
