i.
what do you think is the most
important issue in this election?
Economic, social and environmental
justice.
ii.
why did you make the decision to
stand in this constituency and for this party (as an independent)?
My branch nominated
me.
iii.
what kind of vote are you expecting
on May 5th?
Very hard to tell as it is a new
constituency. Hope to make the deposit though.
iv.
aside from the vote what are you
hoping to get out of this campaign?
Raise the party profile, new
members, opportunity to promote party policies and experience for
myself.
v.
in your view what is the greatest
threat to our civil liberties at the moment?
The culture of fear
stirred up by the Blair/Bush coalition resulting in repressive laws.
vi.
Blair has taken us to war three
times since coming to power (not including the occasional ad hoc
bombing raid) in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. Can war ever be
justified?
I can't think of a
war that couldn't have been avoided but while we have the
globalisation of capitalism I think we can expect more. It suits
arms manufacturers to have warring nations as well as helping to
shore up a declining manufacturing base.
vii.
There is very little left to
privatise in this country, if you had your way what would be brought
into public hands?
Everything that the Tories and
Labour have privatised.
viii.
Some
environmental campaigners have started talking about nuclear power
as a way to bring down CO2 emissions - what do you think of this?
Can't
agree. They still have no way to make the waste safe. Investment in
alternative technology is the best way forward accompanied with
energy conservation. Environmental impact assessments should be
conducted when any planning permission is sought.
ix.
Asylum and immigration will be central issues in this
election. What action on this issue
would you like to see the next government push through?
We need to ensure that asylum seekers and immigrants
are welcomed and that their human rights are honoured. That includes
the right to work, a home, health care and an education for their
children.
x.
What question
do you wish was on this list but doesn't appear?
Are devolution/independence issues important?
