i.
what do you think is the most important issue in this election?
The Iraq war.
ii.
why did you make the decision to stand in this constituency and for this
party (as an independent)?
Stood before in Norwich for the Greens and we are trying to build up the
vote across Norwich.
iii.
what kind of vote are you expecting on May 5th?
5% at least hopefully!
iv.
aside from the vote what are you hoping to get out of this campaign?
More supporters.
v.
in your view what is the greatest threat to our civil liberties at the
moment?
ID Cards.
vi.
Blair has taken us to war three times since coming to power (not including
the occasional ad hoc bombing raid) in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. Can
war ever be justified?
Not war in the global sense. I might support it as the last act to defend
ones homeland after all peaceful methods have failed. Disarmament is the way
forward.
vii.
There is very little left to privatise in this country, if you had your
way what would be brought into public hands?
Water, Rail, Buses, Local services, Power generation/distribution and
TeleCommunications.
viii.
Some environmental campaigners have started talking about nuclear power as
a way to bring down CO2 emissions - what do you think of this?
Absolutely opposed. We have no way of dealing with problems associated
with waste generated from Nuclear Power. We have wind, solar and other safe
renewables which we should be developing far more than we are. Energy
efficiency, reducing oil/gas/coal consumption is a fundamental part of the
equation.
ix.
Asylum and immigration will be central issues in this election. What
action on this issue would you like to see the next government push
through?
Asylum - Help people who come to Britain to escape persecution to integrate into
society. Immigration - economic migration is a fundamental problem due to
the imbalance in wealth between nations and can't be tackled by imposing
arbitrary quotas. I would like to see comprehensive debt cancellation to
all debtor nations, ending of arms exports, free appropriate technology
transfer, and an end to globalisation and the interference in local economies by
the WTO. Establishment of fair trade principles for those goods that need to be
traded between countries.
x.
What question do you wish was on this list but doesn't appear?
More and more people are fed up with mainstream politics which is
reflected in dwindling voter turnout. How can we build a more relevant, vibrant
democracy in this country?
2005
