Tim Dawes, Green Party Candidate for Havant
i.
what do you think is the most important issue in this election?
Easy - climate change and global warming. Globalisation second.
ii.
why did you make the decision to stand in this constituency and for this
party (as an independent)?
I live in this constituency. The Green Party represents my views and it has a
message that must be heard.
iii.
what kind of vote are you expecting on May 5th?
I was hoping for votes.
iv.
aside from the vote what are you hoping to get out of this campaign?
Publicity for what we stand for. The occasional uplifting experience on the
door step.
v.
in your view what is the greatest threat to our civil liberties at the
moment?
Bush and globalisation.
vi.
Blair has taken us to war three times since coming to power (not including
the occasional ad hoc bombing raid) in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Can war ever be justified?
Yes, against fascism for example. But never for oil or any economic
self-interest reason.
vii.
There is very little left to privatise in this country, if you had your
way what would be brought into public hands?
Quite a lot. Rail (nationally), bus and local rail (locally). Water
certainly. End to PFI. Probably others - eg
drug production.
viii.
Some environmental campaigners have started talking about nuclear power as
a way to bring down CO2 emissions - what do you think of this?
Crazy. We need a complete change in thinking about how we live, not a
technology fix that leaves us with a toxic legacy for 100,000 years.
ix. Asylum and immigration will be central issues in this election.
What action on this issue would you like to see the next government push
through?
Asylum needs to humanised and people fleeing oppression elsewhere given much
more help and respect.
We would tackle the causes of economic immigration (driven by disparity in
economic opportunities). Immigration, or rather over population in the UK
is a London and SE problem, or rather part of the problem of chronic
over-crowding caused by a GDP increase mind set and a culture that is
dominated by materialist values. The population of Scotland is falling.
x.
What question do you wish was on this list but doesn't appear?
Nothing on climate change or globalisation. Shame on you!
