i.
what do you think is the most important issue
in this election?
Climate Change, we may have less than 10 years to take real action to
avoid major catastrophes in the future
ii.
why did you make the decision to stand in
this constituency and for this party (as an independent)?
Because I live just on the edge of the constituency and believe it is
winnable for the greens, if not now then in the next 10 years. The green
party stand for social justice and are the
only party serious about climate change and sorting out the problems of
our society and the world.
iii.
what kind of vote are you expecting on May
5th?
I expect to get a sizable vote and retain my deposit without any
problems, and you never know what may happen in times like this when so
many people are unhappy with what the main 3 parties offer.
iv.
aside from the vote what are you hoping to
get out of this campaign?
I hope to promote the work of the green party and educate people that we
are not a single issue party. I also hope to set the wheels in motion
for us getting further green councilors in Sheffield in the next local
elections in 2006.
v.
in your view what is the greatest threat to
our civil liberties at the moment?
The current home office policies which are removing justice and the
right to a fair trial by jury, rights we have held for almost 800 years.
vi.
Blair has taken us to war three times since coming to power (not
including the occasional ad hoc bombing raid) in the Balkans,
Afghanistan and Iraq. Can war ever be justified?
We believe in solving conflicts with peace treaties and talks, not by
the barrel of a gun, we want to tackle the causes of international
conflict, poverty, hunger and oppression.
vii.
There is very little left to privatise in
this country, if you had your way what would be brought into public
hands?
All public services should be exactly that, we oppose the privatization
of our public services, including health, education, transport and
postal services etc.
viii.
Some environmental campaigners have started talking about nuclear power
as a way to bring down CO2 emissions - what do you think of this?
Nuclear power is not the answer, the potential health risks and problems
of waste disposal are too great, the greens have policies which will
bring more power from sustainable sources, and we believe that this is
the only way to tackle climate change, in hand with reducing energy
consumption.
ix.
Asylum and immigration will be central issues in this election. What
action on this issue would you like to see the next government push
through?
Education about immigration and asylum are key,
we must stop allowing certain papers to lie about these issues, and then
people will realize we are not being flooded with immigrants, we have a
duty to accept those seeking asylum, and are in many cases the cause of
their need to seek asylum.
x.
What question do you wish was on this list but doesn't appear?
What can be done
about the threat of peak oil and climate change, and how will your party
act to avoid climatic and economic disasters in the ever nearer
future.
